5 Products That May Cause Hairloss

Men and women invest in all sorts of products to keep their hair strong and healthy. But before buying a new conditioner or hair spray, learn how products may cause excessive shedding and advanced hairloss.

What are the causes of hairloss?

Many factors affect your hair’s condition, including your age, diet, and genetic predisposition. But you’ll be surprised how common hair products can intensify normal shedding. When this happens, you’ll need effective hairloss treatments.

Here are 5 products that may eventually cause hairloss:

1.  Hair Dyes

Lay off the hair color for a while! Dying your hair frequently can strip it of its natural proteins, making it look dull and thin. Hair dyes that contain Lead as the main ingredient can irritate your scalp after repeated use. Bleaching also dries up your hair shafts. If you leave it on too long, it may cause hair breakage from the roots.

 2. Heat Styling Products

When styling your hair, avoid applying too much heat. As much as possible, don’t use curling wands and flat irons too often. Excessive heat causes hair breakage and split ends, which makes your hair brittle and dry. When using a hair dryer, position it at least 6 inches away from your scalp to prevent surface damage.

3. Dry Shampoo

Wash your hair instead of using dry shampoo! No matter how convenient it seems, leave-on dry shampoo doesn’t actually clean your hair. In fact, it can cause hair follicle inflammation. Continuous use may lead to bald patches. Plus, dry shampoo clumps up, tangling more hair strands in your brush.

4. Shampoos with Thickeners

Check if your shampoo contains excessive sodium chloride. If so, choose a milder formula that doesn’t produce too much suds. Most shampoos contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) and Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), which are chemicals that make shampoos form into a rich lather. Using these types of shampoo can strip your scalp of moisture, making it dry and itchy.

 5. Hair Products with Irritants

Choose hair products that don’t contain fragrances and artificial colors. When you read the label, they appear as FD&C or D&C followed by a color or a number. Shampoos with Diethanolamine (DEA) and Triethanolamine (TEA) also destroy keratin and cause scalp inflammation.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you want to try a new hair product. Remember, when it comes to styling and grooming, it’s best to be gentle on your hair.
